I was born in Toronto in '85. Enrolled at an arts highschool in 1999 called the Etobicoke School of the Arts as a Visual Arts major. Graduated in 03 and starting renting studio space in Toronto's west with fellow artist and long time friend Joshua Barndt.
Following that year I enrolled at OCAD in Toronto. After completing the foundation year I decided I was going to transfer my degree to another school and chose Concordia University in Montreal.
The summer between my switch from OCAD to Concordia I tried treeplanting as a means to finance my life. I've been planting every summer since and love it. Its been an incredible learning experience as well as a good time each summer.
Montreal is an amazing city to live and make art in. For two years I lived there, painting almost every day in Concordia's studios, working in restaurants in the city's west end and attending art and sociology classes downtown.
I am currently living in Toronto again and taking a 'hiatus' from school. i fill my days with a combination of a day job, drawing and working at WhipperSnapper Gallery. I am lucky enough to live with beautiful girlfriend Amanda who operates a clothing collective in Toronto that focuses on locally made, independent designers interested in sustainability and social justice. Check them out here.
I owe so much to my family: My father and everything he's done for us, everything I have learned from him and the continuing development of our relationship; my mother, a children's author, editor and teacher - an enormous pillar in my life; my brother who despite my best attempts is really the smarter of the two of us, someone who has always been able to see through my BS for the better; and my little sister who recently moved to New York to study dance with the Alvin Ailey School and perpetually blows my mind.
I hope to go back to school in Montreal and finish my BFA in the next year. But first I have some painting and planting to get down to....
